Research in the negative effects of methylphenidate continues. Nadine Lambert, Ph. D., professor and Director of the School Psychology Program at the University of California, Berkeley, found that adults who had been been prescribed stimulants as children were significantly more likely to become smokers, but more seriously, more likely to become dependent on cocaine and to become subject to “lifetime use of cocaine and stimulants.” (Lambert, 1998) p.198.
